First Rosatom Center opened at Tomsk Polytechnic University

It is a platform for professional support of students focused on a career in the nuclear industry.

On February 9, the first Rosatom Center was opened at Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU), a mainstay university of the State Corporation. The work of the Center will cover all stages — from career guidance and employer-sponsored education to externship, graduation projects and further employment. The new site was opened by Tatiana Terentyeva, Deputy General Director for Human Resources at Rosatom State Corporation, and Leonid Sukhikh, Acting Rector of TPU.

The Center is located on the basis of the field-oriented Engineering School of Nuclear Technologies of TPU. A modern space was created for it. It will work with students from all TPU engineering and research schools interested in a career in the nuclear industry.

"The Rosatom Center is a fundamentally new format for cooperation between the State Corporation and universities. This is our representative office, which unites all areas of cooperation between Rosatom and the University. Tomsk Polytechnic University, one of the best engineering universities in Russia, a mainstay university of Rosatom, is a pioneer in this project. I am sure that the Сenter will become a dynamic space for growth, where students will come for their dreams, and leave with a sought-after profession and confidence in the future that they will be able to implement their dreams at Rosatom," said Tatiana Terentyeva.
She noted that Rosatom, as a technology leader, has ambitious goals, and the need for graduates is great. By 2042, 38 new nuclear power plants are to be built in Russia and nuclear facilities exceeding those currently operating will be commissioned. For these purposes, about 50 thousand graduates of universities and colleges are required.

The tasks of the Center include advising on employment, vacant jobs, job training, work placement and employer-sponsored education. Career events are also planned: career days, job fairs, lectures and seminars with involvement of industry experts.
More than 400 TPU students annually undergo job training and work placement at Rosatom enterprises, and about 100 graduates join a large team of the State Corporation. The demand for our graduates of nuclear programs of study is several times higher than their number. However, the nuclear industry has long needed not only classical nuclear scientists, but also chemists, electric power engineers, materials scientists, IT specialists, and many others. The Center will become a kind of one-stop service for our students who want to join a large team of Russian nuclear specialists, — notes Leonid Sukhikh, Acting Rector of TPU.
As part of the ceremony, Tatiana Terentyeva presented degree certificates to graduates of the Nuclear Chemistry Department and future employees of nuclear power plants who studied design and operation of NPPs at TPU. All of them studied at spealist's degree programs and were awarded for academic and scientific achievements.
During the Ceremony, graduates also received invitations to training at nuclear plants across the country. For example, to the Siberian Chemical Plant, Novosibirsk Chemical Concentrates Plant, Beloyarsk, Kalinin, Kolsk NPPs, Electrochemical Plant, Kalinin branch of Kalininatomtekhenergo and others.

"The Tomsk Region has been and remains a stronghold region for personnel training not only for the Siberian Chemical Plant and those industries that are located in our region, but also for a large territory of Russia. Therefore, today the region is making a lot of efforts to help improve the quality of personnel training and attract research institutions to the technological chains necessary to launch Power Industry 4.0," noted Lyudmila Ogorodova, Deputy Governor of the Tomsk Region for Scientific and Technological Development, at the opening ceremony of the Center.

Tomsk Polytechnic University is a mainstay university of the Rosatom State Corporation. The University has been training personnel for the domestic nuclear industry for over 75 years. TPU is the only university outside the Urals that trains personnel for the nuclear industry in all basic fields: from mining uranium raw materials to processing spent nuclear fuel. Today, graduates of the University are members of the management team of 8 out of 12 Russian NPPs.

The Rosatom Center is a unification point of all areas of interaction between the State Corporation and its institutions with the University.

Its function is to provide comprehensive support to students at all stages: from university admission and adaptation to job training, graduation projects and subsequent employment. The Center searches out talented students, interacts with student activists, arranges field-oriented events and collects feedback. It also develops scientific cooperation, arranges job training and experience exchange for lecturers, and promotes renewal of the university infrastructure.
