Winners of the Atoms Empowering Africa 2025 Video Competition Visit Landmark Sites of Russian Nuclear Industry

In August 2025, the winners of the 8th Atoms Empowering Africa video contest traveled to Russia for a unique five-day educational tour of key facilities in the Russian nuclear sector. Among the highlights of the visit were the Rosatom Technical Academy in Obninsk — a leading centre for training specialists in the nuclear industry — and the Obninsk Nuclear Power Plant, the world’s first nuclear power plant connected to the electrical grid, now functioning as a memorial and research complex showcasing the origins of peaceful atomic energy and nuclear safety standards.

During their stay in Moscow, the participants visited the Atom Pavilion at VDNH, a distinctive exhibition venue presenting the history and modern achievements of Russia’s nuclear industry. The cultural program included guided tours of iconic landmarks such as Red Square and the Kremlin, providing the young professionals from South Africa, Egypt, Kenya, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, and Namibia with a deeper understanding of Russia’s rich cultural heritage.
