International Youth Nuclear Congress 2024 brought together young professionals from more than 50 countries

Foreign students from Rosatom's partner universities - participants in the "Russian Nuclear Education Ambassadors" project of the Moscow Branch of Rosatom's Technical Academy - took part in the International Youth Nuclear Congress 2024, held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, from 29 September to 5 October. This largest global forum for young nuclear professionals, organised with the support of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), brought together young professionals from more than 50 countries: Japan, Ghana, United Kingdom, France, Russia and others.

During the event, Karel Tyr (Czech Republic), a student at MEPhI, presented several research papers, including one on experimental kinetics of nuclear reactors, and co-authored a study on xenon poisoning of reactors and the phenomenon known as "iodine pit". His contribution to research on the use of different groups of delayed neutrons was highly appreciated by the session participants and attracted considerable interest. The audience noted the innovative approach and depth of analysis, confirming the high level of the Russian nuclear education programme.

Soumojit Mukherjee (India), a PhD student at MEPhI, presented a poster entitled 'New Nuclear Renaissance: Comparing Nuclear Energy Policies and Plans in BRICS and G7 Countries'. His poster analysed the differences in the approaches and strategies of the two international groupings and the importance of multilateral cooperation in advancing nuclear technology. His work provoked lively discussions among experts and participants, who asked many questions about the content of the poster and actively shared their personal views on the prospects for global nuclear energy development.

In addition to the scientific programme, Congress participants had the opportunity to take part in a technical tour that included visits to the newly built Barakah Nuclear Power Plant, the Emirates Nuclear Technology Centre, the Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, the Technology Innovation Institute, Masdar City and the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence. Visits to these facilities allowed the young professionals to learn about the advanced technologies and infrastructure being actively developed in the UAE to support a sustainable and innovative future in energy and science.

Conferences such as these play a key role in forging international links and developing nuclear energy around the world, as well as helping young professionals expand their knowledge and share best practice. By speaking at major international venues, foreign students studying nuclear and related subjects in Russia demonstrate a high level of education and an innovative approach to solving current problems in the field of nuclear energy, share their experiences of studying at specialised universities, and contribute to the promotion of Russian science and education on the world stage.

International Youth Nuclear Congress brings together young professionals in the field of nuclear technology. The main goal of the organisation is to transfer knowledge and experience in the field of peaceful nuclear technologies to a new generation of professionals.

Russian Nuclear Education Ambassadors project is implemented by the Nuclear Education Transfer Project Office of the Moscow Branch of the Rosatom Technical Academy. It currently involves about 50 students from 28 countries. Each year, the ambassadors take part in more than 20 industry and international events and report on their activities on social networks and in the media, including interviews with regional and Russian media. They share their experiences of studying in Russia, talk about the advantages of nuclear power, nuclear medicine and modern nuclear technologies, and help applicants from different countries to choose a specialised university in Russia and enter the field of their interest.
